Comment Section Moderation Rules
Eurovision is a celebration of diversity and a place for spirited debate. These rules keep the 12 Points comment section a place where every fan — and the research that runs alongside it — can thrive.
Be Respectful
Debate is welcome; personal attacks are not. Criticism of songs, performances, staging, or voting outcomes is allowed. Personal attacks, harassment, or degrading remarks about users, artists, countries, or groups of people are not.
No Hate Speech or Discrimination
Content that demeans, attacks, or excludes people based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic will be removed immediately and may result in account restrictions. Eurovision is a celebration of diversity — keep it that way.
No Misinformation
Do not knowingly spread false or misleading claims about artists, songs, results, other users, or the research project. Speculation and opinion are allowed, but should not be presented as verified fact.
No Spam or Self-Promotion
Repeated identical comments, unsolicited links, promotional content, and bot-generated content are not allowed. Posting the same comment across multiple entries to manipulate discussion or push a coordinated narrative may also be considered spam.
Keep it Family-Friendly
The platform is open to adolescents. Do not post graphic sexual content, sexually objectifying remarks about artists or users, graphic violence, or other content that is inappropriate for a broad audience. Mild language may be moderated if it is directed at another person or used abusively.
Respect the Research Context
12 Points is a scientific project. Do not attempt to manipulate ratings, coordinate artificial voting campaigns, use bots or fake accounts, or encourage others to distort the data. Such behaviour undermines the research and may lead to comment removal, account restrictions, or removal from the research dataset where appropriate.
No Doxxing or Privacy Violations
Do not share private or identifying information about other users, artists, or third parties without their consent. This includes addresses, phone numbers, emails, private social media accounts, private messages, location information, or other information that could be used to identify or contact someone.
Report, Don't Retaliate
If you see a rule-breaking comment, use the report button. Do not respond aggressively. Retaliatory comments, harassment, or abuse may also be moderated.
Moderation Measures
If a comment appears to violate these rules, the 12 Points team may take one or more moderation actions, including:
- Hiding the comment pending review.
- Reducing its visibility.
- Removing it.
- Issuing a warning.
- Temporarily limiting commenting privileges.
- Banning repeat or serious offenders.
Where appropriate, users may be notified that their comment has been moderated. Severe violations — including hate speech, doxxing, threats, or deliberate manipulation of the research platform — may result in immediate removal or account restrictions.
In some borderline cases, a comment may be limited to a smaller audience rather than removed entirely. If this happens, the commenter will be informed that the comment is no longer publicly visible.
Changes to These Guidelines
These rules may be updated as the platform evolves. Continued use of the platform means following the current version of the community guidelines. For related policies, see our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
